Rules of American Roulette
One roulette version that its mostly played in United States is the American roulette variant.
The rules of American roulette are quite similar to European roulette but in this version, theres an additional double zero slot added to the roulette wheel.
It may look insignificant at fist glance but adding an additional slot has the impact of increasing the advantage that the casino has over you.
In American roulette there are 38 numbers on the table, where the probability of success for a single number bet is 1/38, the odds against winning are 37/38 and it pays out stakes at 35:1.
Using the above data, we can then calculate the house advantage as being:
-1x (37/38) + 35x (1/38) = -0.0526 or 5.26% is the casinos advantage.
If we compare this to European roulette, which has a house edge of just 2.70%, then you can quickly see that youre much better off playing European roulette than the American variant.
When youre playing at the casino, American roulette may be your only option but if you can choose between double zero and single zero roulette variations, always go for the latter.
European Roulette
European roulette is basically what most players refer to as Traditional Roulette or Classic Roulette and its the most popular type of roulette version played the world around.
